In an age of political correctness, he is hardly a flag-waver for feminism.

But James Bond can continue treating women badly, says the writer drafted in to help write the new 007 film, the 25th in the franchise. 

Killing Eve and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has pledged that the movie will 'treat women properly' even though the secret agent does not always do so himself.

Miss Waller-Bridge, 33, said that while the spy-thriller genre needs to evolve to fit in with the changing social landscape, 007 must remain true to his character.

She is helping director Cary Joji Fukunaga with the script and one of her tasks is to flesh out the female characters – which are no longer referred to as Bond Girls.
