The new Love Island contestants are getting ready to to embark on a rollercoaster journey in the brand new series of Love Island.

And former contestant Eyal Booker revealed the cast are put on a 'mini holiday' during the lockdown period, with their phones taken away and a chaperone to watch over them.

The 23-year-old, who appeared on last year's Love Island, told The Sun: 'Lockdown is pretty much a nice little holiday before you go in, you get your phone taken away and you've got to say good bye to your family and friends, can't have contact with the outside world from then on in.

'You have a chaperone who is looking after you and takes you out for dinner, you go to a hotel and basically chill for a week.'

Eyal revealed the chaperones help contestants with any worries they have about going on the show and reassure them that 'the show want them just as much as they want to go'.

He said: 'I definitely think it's a daunting experience but it's a nice experience, it's not like you're locked in a room for seven days and you're just in your own head.'

Eyal shot to fame on last year's Love Island, and later appeared on E4 reality show Celebs Go Dating after he didn't have much luck romantically in the villa.

But the star has found love with Delilah Belle Hamlin, 20, and was first linked to the model when the unlikely pair got cosy at Coachella Festival last month.

Love Island will kick off when 12 new hopefuls enter the villa on Monday for the firth season of the ITV show.

The ITV2 show unveiled the first contestants earlier this week, with Tyson Fury's brother Tommy and Strictly star AJ Pritchard's brother Curtis being among the new 2019 cast.

Returning for its fifth season, the hopeful singles will aim to follow in the footsteps of 2018 winners Dani and Jack, despite their relationship now being over.

Ahead of the launch show on Monday June 3, some of the new Islanders may already be recognisable to the public.

The fresh cohort of singletons boast links to famous faces, with the line-up including 2018 Islander Charlie Frederick's ex-girlfriend Lucie Rose Donlan, TV personality Ellie Brown's BFF Amber Rose Gill and Scottish reality star Anton Danyluk.

Die-hard Love Island fans may recognise one of the new contestants set to appear on the new series, as newbie Lucie, 21 - a professional surfer - hit headlines last year when she dated model Charlie, 23, who was an Islander on the 2018 series.

There will be just five girls to join the start of the show - with seven men outweighing the ladies, promising a far from smooth-sailing start to the first coupling up of the fifth season.

Two men will reportedly be left out in the cold straight away, leaving the boys to battle against each other for the attention of the bikini-clad beauties moving into the Mallorcan villa.

Iain Stirling will also return with his inimitable take on all the island action as show narrator - remarking as the game of love gets underway.

The show sees the Islanders attempt to couple up in order to secure their places in the villa, with those who stay single finding themselves at risk of being dumped from the show.
