The Voice star Kim Sheehy has credited the show for giving her the confidence to publicly address her sexuality. 

Following her stint on the Channel Nine series in 2016, Kim confirmed she is a lesbian on social media and described the experience as 'so freeing'. 

Speaking to TV Week, the aspiring singer, 31, said before The Voice she could never be her 'most authentic self' because of her former job working at a Catholic school.

'There's nothing worse than hiding who you are to appease other people,' she stressed, while revealing she eventually plucked up the courage to resign. 

'I couldn't be my most authentic self and be out as a lesbian woman because my job would be comprised,' Kim said.

Despite loving her job, music teacher Kim made the decision to quit and finally embrace her sexuality.
