I know a lot of 17-year-olds that are going through this,' she said in her interview. The Greatest Showman star says when she got the script she knew right away she connected with Rue. 'I fell in love with who Rue was,' she remembered. 'It felt special because I don't like to read scripts, and for me to read through it faster than anything I've ever read before, obviously I connected with it somehow.' Director Sam Levinson says he knew he wanted Zendaya from the beginning, saying she 'was on his vision board' when writing the plot. The show is based on his own life experiences and Zendaya says she prepared for her role by speaking to Levinson about his past experiences.
