Cassandra Thorburn has offered a frankly bizarre excuse for why her new Mini Cooper S has the personalised number plate 'Fizzy'. 'Fizzy' is the well-known nickname of Jasmine Yarbrough, the former model her ex-husband Karl Stefanovic married in Mexico last December. Speaking to The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday morning, Cassandra insisted the whole affair was just one big coincidence. It's all just a coincidence! Cassandra Thorburn has offered a frankly bizarre excuse for why her new Mini Cooper S has the personalised number plate 'Fizzy' 'I didn't know [Fizzy] was her nickname,' Cassandra said at the start of the interview. 'It's not common knowledge is it? Apparently it is now!' Radio host Kyle Sandilands then asked: 'So what, it's a coincidence that you got the "Fizzy" number plate?' 'No, no, it's not a coincidence!' Cassandra responded. 'The car, I purchased from my girlfriend, who was moving overseas for a couple of years. Second marriage: 'Fizzy' is the well-known nickname of Jasmine Yarbrough (right), the former model her ex-husband Karl Stefanovic (left) married in Mexico last December 'She offered me to buy her car, which has had the same number plate for four years and she actually owned the number plate on her previous car. 'And she asked me if I wanted to buy her car, and I said yes. And she said, "I also want to keep the private plates" because it has something to do with her and another member of her family. I don't know, people do that with private plates. 'And she said, "Can you hold onto it [the plates]?" And she actually still pays for the private plates. I've had the car since February and organised to buy it late last year.' Kyle asked: 'So it's nothing to do with Karl and the new wife?' 'No, nothing to do with it at all! It's simply the number plate a friend actually has had since 2015 on this car,' Cassandra explained. 'Are you sure you didn't know it was [Jasmine's] nickname and then approached the friend to buy the car for the number plate?' Kyle asked again. Cassandra denied this, saying she would never do something like that. Fancy that! Speaking to The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday morning, Cassandra insisted that she inherited the number plate from a friend whose car she arranged to buy late last year Later in the interview, the 48-year-old children's author claimed the whole number plate saga was like a 'bad Jackie Collins novel'. She added: 'You couldn't write it, you know, it's just things... you know, I don't know, you just think, "How could something like that happen?" Y'know, there's nothing in it. 'It's a number plate that my girlfriend has had on that car since 2015!' Cassandra added that she fears people will now want to vandalise her car because the number plate makes her look 'crazy'. Interestingly, she claimed the most 'upsetting' thing about the whole saga was that she was 'not contacted' for comment on the story by The Sunday Telegraph, which first ran the pictures over the weekend. The Sunday Telegraph insists that its journalist did seek comment from Cassandra before publication. Case of the ex: Cassandra and Karl were married for 21 years before separating in mid 2016. Five months after their split, Karl met Jasmine at a private party in Sydney. Pictured in 2012 She said: 'I was not contacted for that story. They said that they contacted me. They didn't contract me because I could have shown them all the paperwork that shows that this car [has had the "Fizzy" number plate since 2015].' On Sunday, Daily Mail Australia asked Cassandra to provide the aforementioned paperwork to set the record straight. She declined the offer. Cassandra was pictured driving her slick Mini Cooper S around Sydney on Friday, with the 'Fizzy' vanity plate standing out like a sore thumb. 'Fizzy' is a reference to 'Jassy Fizzle', a nickname given to Jasmine by Karl and their group of friends. The couple used the nickname as their wedding hashtag in December last year, with guests captioning their photos: '#LetsGetFizzyKarl'. Over the weekend, after the photos were published by The Sunday Telegraph, Cass accused the media of a 'bullying campaign' against her. 'The facts are far from what's been said. I was never contacted by the media to ask about the four-year-old car and its number plate,' she wrote on Instagram. 'It seems the bullying campaign in some sections of the media, to make me out to be someone I’m not, continues three years on [after splitting from Karl].'
