The likes of Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Samantha Jade all went on to achieve chart success after getting their start on Australian Idol or The X Factor. 

But previous winners of The Voice have all faded into obscurity, with few people remembering any songs by the likes of Karise Eden, Alfie Arcuri or Sam Perry. 

On Tuesday, two industry experts revealed why they believe Channel Nine's long-running talent show has failed to deliver a notable champion after seven seasons.

Cameron Adams, a music writer for the Herald Sun, told TV Tonight that he believes The Voice is yet to produce a major star because the show is primarily focused on entertaining viewers. 

'It’s almost like it focuses on making the best TV show each year - no crime there - and they figure there’ll be more singers next year,' he said.

'Whereas The X Factor in particular had Simon Cowell, who came from a record industry background and really wanted to see people from the show in the charts, not just on TV.'

Cameron also said that talent shows with Australian coaches provide better support and guidance to contestants than mentors on The Voice, who are predominantly from overseas and return to their home countries once filming has wrapped.
