Joshua Jackson will not return for the fifth and final season of The Affair.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that sources had confirmed his exit from the Showtime show. His name was noticeably left out of a press release announcing the premiere of season five on August 25.
Jackson starred as a rancher named Cole whose wife Alison (played by Ruth Wilson) started an affair that ultimately ended their marriage. Following the unexpected death of Alison last season, his character has reached a natural conclusion.

According to showrunner Sarah Treem, Wilson was written off at her own request.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'Ruth wanted to leave the show. That was a request, so that was decided basically before we started writing.'
