Filming for The Block's 2019 season at the seedy Oslo Hotel in Melbourne's St Kilda began just three months ago.

But extraordinary new photos reveal that the renovators have already transformed the 1850s terraces back to their former glory. 

The 56-room hostel, which Channel Nine bought for $11million last year, looks totally different after being repurposed into five welcoming homes.

The graffiti-covered establishment was reportedly plagued with asbestos issues before construction began, with danger signs taped to the front of the building.  

But within a matter of months, the exterior has been given a new lick of paint and its window fittings have been completely restored.

Perhaps the most striking features are the renewed balustrades and railings, which mirror the original 1800s design.
