And speaking to 9Honey, the aspiring singer revealed he decided to hide his identity during the blind auditions round to place greater emphasis on his vocals. Sheldon, 19, explained that he wanted the coaches to focus on his talent rather than who he is, as he'd previously made it to The Voice's grand final last year. Defining moment: Sheldon Riley, 19, has revealed he chose to audition behind a crystal mask for his blind audition on The Voice on Monday to put more emphasis on his vocal talents Sheldon said: 'I wanted to walk out, not show my face and just really go on with my voice and the outfit I created. 'The whole point was when I sing the last words to my song, the mask comes off.' He continued: 'I wanted to show them, "This is me, I'm taking the mask off and I'm ready this year, ready to fight."' Making a comeback: The aspiring singer, 19, explained that he wanted the coaches to focus on his talent rather than his identity in a move that he hoped would help to show the 'real him' Sheldon made it to the Grand Final on The Voice last year, under the guidance of mentor Boy George, and eventually finished in third place. He explained that the mask was a 'testament to last year', when he felt he was judged because of his appearance. During Monday's episode, Sheldon performed Madonna's Frozen and Boy George recognised his voice instantly as he began to sing. Change: Sheldon had made it to the Grand Final on The Voice last year, but said he felt he was judged on the way he looked and being mentor 'Boy George's favourite' more than his voice Sheldon managed to turn the chairs of both Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian. He had previously auditioned for The X Factor Australia in 2016 when he was 17 years old and Guy was a judge on the panel. However, the former Australian Idol winner seemingly snubbed Sheldon when he said they 'have no history' together.
