Amy Foster revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer on Monday in a photo that appeared to show her in an MRI machine.
The 45-year-old songwriter and author explained her plan of attack for the cancer battle in her post, which later received a supportive comment from her father.

'You may have noticed that I’ve gone a little dark on social media,' she began her post. 'I flunked my mammogram recently. I felt a lump and got it checked and yep....Breast cancer.
'The great news is that I caught it early and although I am getting a mastectomy- I don’t need chemo. In other words I feel so lucky and grateful for this diagnosis which could have easily been so much worse if I had waited,' she continued.
She went on to urge women to get checked out if they notice anything unusual about their breasts.
'KNOWING IS BETTER...even if it’s the worst news you can hear,' she wrote.
'I will leave you with the mantra that so many women revert back to in order to minimize how they are feeling- but in my case, it really is the truth...I’m fine. Still...#f***cancer,' she concluded on a defiant note.

Her father David posted a touching message of support and love on Tuesday in the comments, acknowledging he'd seen it late due to traveling in China.
