The mullet he once wore is as famous as he is. 

But Neighbours star Ryan Maloney, who plays Jarrod 'Toadfish' Rebecchi on the soap, says he 'hated' the retro hairdo. 

Speaking to The Herald Sun, the 39-year-old said: 'I hated that hair but that is how I got the job in the first place.

'I'd auditioned previously and they rang up and said, "Is your hair still the same?" I said, 'Yes", and they said, "Great, you have got the job. Don't cut it".' 

Ryan first made his debut on Neighbours on January 23, 1995 and has been a main cast member ever since. 

And the star, who now wears his hair cropped short, says he was stuck with the look a lot longer than he would have liked.
