And Joe sparked fury among Love Island fans when he insisted crying Lucie should be friends with the girls in the villa, rather than spending her time with Tommy. 

Sunday night viewers were outraged when they watched Joe reduce Lucie to tears after he took her to one side for a five minute chat to discuss her friendships.

He told her: 'You're very, very close with all the boys individually. Now it's time to get close with the girls.'

Frustrated, Lucie broke down into tears as she lamented she 'couldn't be bothered' with the friendship politics in the Mallorcan villa anymore. 

The surfer has already explained on a number of occasions that she finds it easier to be friends with boys rather than girls. 

But unable to accept this, Joe later told his fellow islanders he hoped she 'woke up and changes' her behaviour.
