Zendaya debuted a new scarlet hair color at the Spider-Man: Far From Home promo event at the Tower of London on Monday and sparked a wave of online speculation.

Fans of the web-slinging superhero were quick to point out that the actress, 22, could be playing a version of Mary Jane 'MJ' Watson, the famously red-headed girlfriend of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man portrayed in the Marvel comic books.

And at the end of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, Zendaya's character, Michelle Jones, revealed that her close friends call her 'MJ'.

Although Michelle and Tom Holland's Peter Parker weren't romantically linked in the prequel, fans believe she could be following in the footsteps of Kirsten Dunst, who played MJ in the 2002-2007 Spider-Man series.

And Zendaya added more fuel to the rumor fire as she posted an Instagram snap of her new hair hue with the caption: 'Face it, Tiger...'

Eagle-eyed fans pointed out that Mary Jane says 'Face it tiger... you just hit the jackpot' upon first meeting Parker in the comic books. 

'THAT’S OUR MARY JANE I CAN’T BREATHE ZENDAYA REALLY DID THAT,' one Twitter user enthusiastically wrote.
