MasterChef's Sandeep Pandit apologised for what he hoped was not an 'average' dish on Thursday night's episode.

The 37-year-old presented his variation of rice pudding with honey that the judges felt did not push the boundaries. 

Prior to tasting, a highly emotional Sandeep hoped the flavours would 'redeem' him.

Judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston quizzed Sandeep as to whether he could have pushed himself harder. 

'I've tried to push the boundaries of wanting to do something different, (but) I'm just scared of goofing up and falling flat on my face,' Sandeep admitted.
