The $118 million opening weekend for Toy Story 4 was only the third film in 2019 to gross over $100 million during opening weekend. The other two films to reach the box office milestone were also Disney films: Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.
Though Toy Story 4 was expected to rake in $140-$150 million, it significantly outperformed other movies in the box office.

The fourth and last film in the Toy Story saga reunited Tim Allen and Tom Hanks as iconic Buzz Lightyear and Woody.
Toy Story 4 was written by Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Valerie LaPointe, Martin Hynes, and now-ousted Pixar chief John Lasseter, and cost $200 million to make.
The films global box office numbers already put it over the cost of production with $238 million made across the globe.
The previous film in the franchise, Toy Story 3 which was released in 2010, ultimately went on to make over $1 billion, and with inflation, made $129 million opening weekend, according to AP.
