Vicky Pattison urges Love Island fans to 'be kind' and stop 'verbal vitriol' on ...

Following the suicides of former Islanders Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis there were several campaigns urging people to be kind online.

Yet Vicky Pattison pointed out that this poignant message appeared to have been forgotten in recent weeks as she urged Love Island fans to stop sharing such negative comments on social media.

Referring to comments she had seen online, the former Geordie Shore star addressed her 4.3 million Instagram followers on Wednesday alongside a picture of the late Sophie and Mike.

In a lengthy post, she referred to the late 'beautiful, charismatic, fun loving and young people who should have had the world at their feet' as she lamented that the pair 'left this world all too soon not knowing just how loved they were.'

She went on to explain that although she hadn't watched any of this year's series, she had read some of the comments aimed at the Islanders online, and had been shocked at the negative posts.

The reality star reasoned: 'Have we not witnessed the detrimental and irreversible affect our thoughtless words and reckless opinions can have on someone’s mental health?!

'Why are people still attacking these islanders with such verbal vitriol?! Do you know them personally?! Of course not! Have they done anything to warrant it?! No way. Are they human?! YES!

'These people are no different to you and me and they have feelings and these hateful comments with have ramifications we can’t even begin to understand.'

Mike, 26, who was on Love Island in 2017, was found dead in a park near his north London home in March.

Sophie, 32, who took part in 2016, died in June last year after struggling with depression. She took her life following a cocaine and alcohol binge.

Her body was found at her home in Ponteland, Northumberland, by her boyfriend Aaron Armstrong, who killed himself 20 days later.

Looking back at this tragic loss, Vicky continued: 'It’s so ludicrous to me that after everything that’s happened this past year I’m still having to urge people to be kind but here we are.

'We have lost too many people and I know this isn’t confined to the world of reality tv. Through the callous words of individuals, online hate and cyber bullying we are breaking people, destroying them and it has to stop.

'Think before you type. Your words have gravity.

'Please be better than this internet culture of hate. Do not allow it to breed. Be kind, be compassionate. Be human. Let’s put the ‘love’ back in ‘love island’ for Sophie & Mike.'

Vicky's comments came after it was revealed that Love Island contestants are handed documents warning they will ‘come under pressure’ in ways they are unlikely to have faced before.

It is a sign that bosses on the ITV2 dating show, which is under the spotlight following the suicides of two former stars, are well aware of the risks
