While Netflix doesn't often release viewership data from its original programs, director Ava DuVernay revealed how many people have watched her four-part series When They See Us.
DuVernay's series When They See Us was watched by over 23 million Netflix accounts, which the director said that Netflix 'shared' the data with her.
The critically-acclaimed series is based on the true story of the Central Park Five teenagers who were accused of raping a woman in Central Park in 1989.

'Imagine believing the world doesn’t care about real stories of black people,' DuVernay began.
'It always made me sad. So when Netflix just shared with me that 23M+ accounts worldwide have watched #WhenTheySeeUs, I cried,' she added.
'Our stories matter and can move across the globe. A new truth for a new day,' the director concluded.
