They went from playing an enforcer and a villain in the Fast And The Furious franchise to leading their own spin-off film, Hobbs & Shaw

Dwayne Johnson, 47, and Jason Statham, 51, appeared on the cover of the July 5 issue of Entertainment Weekly in a photo shoot showing off their bruised and battered action hero personas.

The tough guy leads were joined on the cover by Luther star Idris Elba, 46, who plays a genetically modified former spy threatening to unleash a destructive virus.

Rather than the usual Hollywood star glamour shots, the trio were photographed in elaborate post-fight scene setting.

Dwayne, Jason and Idris posed in dusty and dirty clothes, with bruises and bloody cuts applied to mimic film makeup.

The actors were posed against the nondescript back alleys of a city, with a red corvette that was as battered as the they appeared to be.

Despite their roughed up appearances, the three stars still managed to look dapper in matching black suits.

The accompanying article opened with a scene from the filming of Hobbs & Shaw in which Dwayne arrived on set in the morning with a bevy of new insults he thought up the night before for a confrontational scene with his fellow lead actor.

'Jason loves to come to set extremely prepared, lines locked in,' said the Jumanji star. 'I do too, but then I also come [as] a massive pain-in-the-a** headache for Jason because I’m like, "Okay, I’ve got this other idea! Take what you learned and throw it out the window! So how about we do this…"'

The relaxed atmosphere on set and the playful ribbing the actors participated in carried over to their statements about each other.
