The Hills: New Beginnings episode two recap

Caitlyn Jenner was absent from her son Brody's life as he was growing up, only seeing him 'every couple of years,' the reality star-turned-DJ revealed on Monday night’s episode of The Hills: New Beginnings.

Brody Jenner, 35, who stars on MTV's remake of the hit show said to pal Brandon Lee and Frankie Delgado that his dad was never really around and would only come around to see him every couple of years.

The reality star said that after the transition: 'Caitlyn is a different person than Bruce,' which he says is 'awesome.'

Other attendees to the dinner included Shaquille O'Neal's son Myles and Steve McQueen's grandson Chase.

Brody had said: 'I didn't really grow up with my dad. When I was really little we got to spend a little time. When he started, obviously, the family with the Kardashian family. I didn't really see much of him.'

The star explained: 'Bruce was never really around. Every so often, maybe once every couple years. Wasn't around for my graduation. Wasn't around for most of my birthdays so, yeah, it wasn't really any relationship. It was very surface.'

He continued: 'Eventually, we started to become closer but then all of a sudden, it's like, I was just getting to know Bruce and then Bruce became Caitlyn. Cailtyn is a different person than Bruce. Bruce was holding a lot back and being somebody totally different. That's awesome.'

Adding: 'She's off living her life. I've learned not to expect too much from her.'

Brody shared his story as he hung out at the home of castmate Brandon Lee, 28, the son of Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and Baywatch star Pamela Anderson. The two of them talked with pals about the perils of having famous parents.

He later told the groups that since she transitioned four years ago, Cailtyn has changed so much: 'It's her true self, but Bruce was always holding a lot back and being somebody totally different.'

His friend Brandon agreed that fame wasn’t always what it was cracked up to be.

As the son of two internationally famous stars, he had a freewheeling adolescence that ultimately backfired on him, he said.

‘I just got everything I ever wanted, and no one ever told me no,’ he explained in a confessional. ‘It sounds great. It’s not.’

He had recently ‘removed’ certain temptations, like alcohol, from his life, Brandon added.
