Demi Burnett came out as bisexual on Bachelor In Paradise on Tuesday, confessing to her castmates that she had recently been dating a woman back home.
The revelation challenged the close relationship she was starting to form with Derek Peth.
'I think there's only so many people in the world that you can meet and be magnetically attracted to,' said Derek, 32, who had been besotted by Demi from the start of the season.
Coming out: Demi Burnett revealed her bisexuality to castmates and love interest Derek Peth on Tuesday's episode of Bachelor In Paradise
'Demi is the kind of person I could fall in love with,' he declared.
'I'm very conflicted about me and Derek, and I don't think that even Derek knows that,' said Demi, 24, noting that she couldn't stop thinking about her relationship with a woman back in Los Angeles.
'I just want to be able to exist and love who I love and have it be accepted,' she explained, adding that she had only recently told her parents she liked both 'boys and girls.'
They handled it 'amazingly,' Demi related to her friend Katie Morton, 27, as she began telling the cast. 'They were like, ''You're our Dems, and we love you no matter what.''
Magnetic attraction: Derek admitted that he was magnetically attracted to Demi
Derek had naturally observed that Demi ran hot and cold with her emotions.
'It's frustrating not being able to figure out what's holding a connection back,' the suitor offered.
Demi cried as she divulged her secret to Katie, the first person she would tell at the resort.
Opening up: Demi grew emotional as she told her castmates about her bisexuality
'There's layers to me, and I've been so embarrassed of them my whole life, just wanting to be strong and tough,' Demi admitted. 'I just want to be 100 percent myself.'
She wasn't the only one undergoing romantic turmoil.
As the episode opened, Dylan Barbour tried once again to understand why the object of his affections, Hannah Godwin, was repeatedly drawn to rival Blake Horstmann.
Love triangle: Hannah Godwin was approached by Dylan Barbour over their love triangle with Blake Horstmann
The 24-year-old model the previous night had kissed Blake, 30, in full view of the disgusted cast, despite the fact that she had spent the past week seemingly devoted to Dylan, 24.
When Dylan pressed Hannah, she confessed that Blake—the show's resident player—had been texting her before filming started, and even visited her Birmingham, Alabama, hometown.
'We met up and we had a conversation, and then, we kissed there, and I went home,' she told him, cringing as she did so.
'Oh f***,' Dylan said in a confessional.
Major revelation: Dylan was shocked to learn that Blake visited Hannah in Alabama before filming started
'Whether they were in a romantic relationship or not, I didn't have any chance with Hannah,' he admitted to the cameras. 'If I didn't press her, I probably wouldn't have found out.'
'Every single day there's a new piece of the Blake/Hannah puzzle,' marveled Tayshia Adams, 28. 'It's this massive 500-piece puzzle that we originally thought was 10 pieces.'
Tayshia, who'd gone on the season's first date with Blake, took Hannah to task for not telling her what happened.
Too much: Hannah and Dylan walked away from each other after the revelation
'Hannah just plays this innocent card like none of it's her fault and she has no idea what's happening,' Tayshia pointed out.
'She knows what she's doing.'
The day brought a new arrival to the resort: Dean Unglert, 28, a contestant on season 21 of The Bachelorette, who had recently grown a mustache and begun traveling the world in his van.

On his last stint on Bachelor In Paradise, he had been in a love triangle with Kristina Schulman, 27, that ended badly.
This go-round, he ended up asking Caelynn Miller-Keyes, 23, on a date, which blindsided the two men who demonstrated an interest in her: Cam Ayala, 30, and Mike Johnson, 31.
'I was surprised you came back,' Caelynn told Dean over dinner.
New addition: Dean Unglert was back after blowing it during his last season on Bachelor In Paradise
'I was surprised I'm here, too, to be honest,' he replied.
'Last time I was in Paradise, I was just an absolute mess the entire time, and I look back and I think I'm pretty ashamed of how I acted.'
He wanted someone to join him on his adventures, he said.
Caelynn admitted she felt comfortable with Dean.
Instant chemistry: Caelynn Miller-Keyes went on a date with Dean and they hit it off
'I need someone goofy and fun in my life, but also someone who can be charming and charismatic,' she considered, as the two of them jumped into a pool together. 'I got that tonight.'
They swam in the moonlight and kissed.
'It's definitely been the most romantic moment I've had in Paradise,' Caelynn said. 'I finally feel like things are turning around for me.'

Christian Estrada, 29, arrived next.
He previously was on season 14 of The Bachelorette, but left the show on the first night, so the women on the show weren't too familiar with him.
'He was a night-one guy from Becca's season,' said Jordan Kimball, 27. 'He stood by the meatballs the whole night, and was just the guy with the mustache. None of us actually knew his name.'

Christian immediately went on a jet ski date with Nicole Lopez-Alvar, 26, who had been spending time with Clay Harbor, 31.
'It's just difficult to know that you're developing feelings for someone, and it's possible that they could be developing feelings for someone else,' Clay admitted in a confessional.
Nicole, who had just accepted her third one-on-one date since arriving in Paradise, played it cool with Christian.
