Michael Brunelli has spoken candidly about his recent struggle with depression.

Taking to Instagram for R U OK? Day on Thursday, the 28-year-old former Married At First Sight star revealed he was in a dark place mentally earlier this year.   

'This year there was a time when I wasn't OK. I wasn't enjoying work, footy became a chore, I stopped putting effort into my friendships, some days I didn't want to get out of bed and others I just wanted to be alone,' he began.

'I didn't want to put the burden of what I was going through on other people... I had changed, but I was doing my best to hide it.⁣⁣'

Michael said his loved ones - including his girlfriend, Martha Kalifatidis, 31 - had been instrumental in helping him through it.  

'My family, partner and closest friends were, and still are, super supportive. Through everything they are the constant,' he added.
