Following her elimination from Love Island on Thursday, Phoebe Thompson claimed it was the 'pressure' that ruined her relationship with Cassie Landsdell.

They emerged as the show's first same-sex couple, after Phoebe, 28, chose to couple up with Cassie, 27.

But in an interview with Daily Mail Australia on Thursday, Phoebe said the other contestants on the show made things extremely awkward for them.

'We both felt a lot of pressure,' she admitted. 

'Neither of us had ever been in a relationship with a woman before, and I think as soon as we coupled up, all the boys were just sort of staring at us, waiting for something to happen. It was just too much pressure.'

With so much interest in their coupling, Phoebe said neither she or Cassie felt like they were able to take things to the next level.

'We felt like we couldn't just naturally progress in that environment. I felt like we weren't treated the same as every other couple,' she continued. 

'There was more speculation on us and whether we would get intimate or not, which made us too scared to do anything.'

Despite this, she said both she and Cassie had been intimate with women before
