She is known for her portrayal of royal figures throughout a five decade-long career.

And on Saturday, British actress Helen Mirren revealed how she avoids being typecast.

The 74-year-old told Saturday's The Sydney Morning Herald that 'if you do one thing mildly successfully, then the next five things you get offered are basically the same thing.'

In her career to-date, Mirren has played Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth I, Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, and Queen Charlotte in The Madness of King George.   

'You have to have the strength to say no to all of those and find the one that is a surprise,' she told the Australian newspaper.
