Matthew Wright has confirmed he was expecting to leave TalkRadio at Christmas but has had his contract unexpectedly renewed.
A spokesman for TalkRadio confirmed to MailOnline on Tuesday that Matthew had reached the end of his contract and the station 'wished him well for the future.'
But in a dramatic U-turn Matthew, 54, revealed that bosses have decided to keep him on while telling his listeners on Wednesday that he's had 'a tough time with my mental health.'

'Truth be told, whether it be on Brexit or the general election or indeed my own future, I don't know. There you go, I hold my hands up,' he told listeners on Wednesday's show.
'So firstly thank you to everybody that's been in touch on social media. Yes I've been through it, I have to say. Regular listeners will know I've been struggling with post-traumatic stress for the last eighteen months or more and it was difficult.'
'So anyway, all a bit chaotic last night. I turned up for work today as I was expected to do and guess what happened?'
Speaking to Kevin O'Sullivan, he said: 'I was presented with, as were you Kevin, and we were told we're going to be signing new contracts.'

'We're not going our separate ways as I thought might happen at Christmas when our contract comes to an end but we're here in the New Year, so there you go. There's never a dull moment on TalkRadio.'
Matthew took to Twitter during the show to thank fans for their messages, writing: 'Thanks again for all the kind words – I’ve had a tough time with my mental health these past 18mths. I was expecting to leave TalkRadio at end of Xmas but they’d like me and @TVKev to stay on longer now – thanks again.'
Sources close to TalkRadio told MailOnline on Tuesday that a number of presenters, including Iain Lee and Eamonn Holmes, fear for the future of their shows as the station is being taken over in the New Year by Times Radio.

An insider told MailOnline on Tuesday: 'Matthew's had his contract terminated after relations turned sour between him and several of the producers.
'He received an email telling him his contract wasn't being renewed and on Tuesday Kevin and Kait stepped in to fill his regular slot.'
A source close to Matthew, added: 'I can confirm that Matthew will be leaving TalkRadio later this month.
'He's enjoyed his time working with the station but is happy to move onto new opportunities.'
