My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals premiered on Sunday night to dismal ratings. 

Channel Seven's attempt to revive MKR with a more 'competitive' format for its eleventh season didn't win over audiences.

The once-unbeatable cooking show debuted to a record low 498,000 metro viewers, despite an aggressive marketing campaign.

MKR: The Rivals sees five 'champion' couples from past seasons going head to head with five new teams, with Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge as team captains.

Perhaps the biggest change this year is the lack of Instant Restaurants, with participants no longer cooking in their own homes. 

Sunday's ratings represent a decline of 318,000 viewers from 2019's season premiere.
