Amanda Holden, David Beckham, Lily Allen and Bear Grylls led the stars honouring the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday.

Friday commemorates the official surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allied forces on May 8 1945, following the Second World War. 

Britain's Got Talent presenter Amanda, 49, paid tribute to her grandparents as she shared a vintage-style video of herself looking through old photos of her loved ones, set to her rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. 

She wrote: 'Looking back at my very much missed and loved Nanny & Papa who ‘did their bit’ during #worldwar2 Today they would have raised a glass & remembered their friends #veday75 #lestweforget #sacrifice #freedom.'

Former footballer David, 45, shared photos of VE Day with a moving caption, which read: 'Today we remember those who were lost and the freedom they won for us on the 75th anniversary of VE Day.' 

Bear Grylls, 45, shared a moving tribute to the fallen heroes who died in war and honoured those on the frontline fighting coronavirus.

Taking to Instagram, the former SAS serviceman and honorary colonel wrote: '8th May 1945... today we are so fortunate to be able to celebrate VE Day and remember all the many fallen heroes who gave their lives for our freedom.

'As Sir Winston Churchill said at the time to those, past and present: “This is YOUR victory.” Today reminds me of the still strong spirit of endeavour and sacrifice in the many unsung heroes who are fighting a different battle for our freedom. Thank you. This will be YOUR victory.'

Lily Allen, 35, shared a patriotic photo with the caption: 'Today we remember.......VE Day.'

He shared a selection of photos taken during wartime, as well as snaps of NHS fundraiser Colonel Tom Moore and doctors in hospital wearing face masks. 

Singer Kym Marsh shared a photo of her grandfather Walter Marsh as she paid tribute to the spirit of endeavour shown by those past and present.

 She wrote: 'Happy VE Day!!! This is my Grandfather: Private Walter Marsh, First Border Regiment, British Airborne. 

'On this day, 75 years ago, he had survived glider assaults into Sicily and Normandy before becoming a Prisoner of War at Arnhem. My grandmother was told he was missing, presumed dead. 

'She was pregnant with my dad and waited two months to learn of his survival. We are facing our own challenge in 2020 but what our older generation faced and overcame is simply unimaginable. 

The monumental effort and selfless sacrifice demonstrated by Britons of all ages, genders and ethnicities, whether fighting on the front line or driving society forwards at home, is truly humbling.
