Ladbrokes revealed on Tuesday that they had slashed the odds on Regé-Jean playing Bond next, as it went from 40/1 last week to just 16/1 in betting now.

According to the gambling company, Regé-Jean is now seen as more likely to take the part than Jamie Bell and Chris Hemsworth, while he is neck-and-neck with Michael Fassbender.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: 'Rege-Jean Page has shot up the betting and is now firmly considered a frontrunner in the race to replace Daniel Craig as 007.'

Several big names have been tipped for the role since the announcement that Craig will be stepping down, as stars including Idris Elba, Outlander's Sam Heughan, James Norton and Tom Hardy have all been suggested as contenders for the part.
