Today host Karl Stefanovic scoffed at Meghan Markle on Wednesday while discussing her new children's book about father-son relationships.

The Channel Nine presenter, 46, couldn't believe the book, titled The Bench, had started out as a poem the Duchess of Sussex had written for her husband Prince Harry on Father's Day.

As Nine's U.S. correspondent Amelia Adams explained the origins of the book, Karl seemed to find ridiculous that the California-based Sussexes would write poetry for each other in their spare time.

The segment began with Karl's co-host Allison Langdon questioning the words on her own autocue, which compared to Meghan to famous children's author.

'Meghan Markle is joining the ranks of Roald Dahl and J.K. Rowling - oh, a stretch - by writing her first children's book about the bond between fathers and sons,' she said.

When Allison said there would be an audiobook coming out too, LA-based reporter Amelia couldn't hide her sarcasm.
