Susanna Reid sent well wishes to Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard on Wednesday as he remains in hospital for a football injury.

Ben, 46, revealed on Tuesday that he was in hospital for a leg operation after rupturing his ACL and tearing his meniscus during a game of football.

The Good Morning Britain host shared a video to social media as he thanked his followers for their kind messages.

Good friend: Susanna Reid sent well wishes to Ben Shephard on Wednesday as he remains in hospital for leg operation after rupturing his ACL and tearing his meniscus playing football

Susanna, 50, played Ben's social media video on Wednesday's show and informed viewers: 'Ben Shephard is in hospital recovering from surgery because he ruptured his ACL playing football.

'He's going to have to undergo rehab to recover but he did say the pain killers are doing the job.'

Praising her co-star and showing her utmost support, Susanna added: 'Oh you are always a consummate broadcaster Ben Shephard, and good luck with your recovery. I know Ben is going to be back in the studio very soon.

Supportive: Susana, 50, told GMB viewers this morning about Ben's injury, adding 'lots of love to you Ben, get well soon'

'He watches us still from the hospital bed and I am sure he will be watching the game from there this evening. Lots of love to you Ben, get well soon.'

Last month, Ben revealed he had suffered the horrific leg injury while playing football - but nerve damage meant he didn't feel any pain.

He said: 'Interestingly, I didn't realise I had done it quite so badly. I carried on playing for 25 minutes before I thought, 'it feels a little bit unstable, perhaps I should stop.'

'It turns out I had severed all the nerves which is why I couldn't feel any pain, and just carried on playing.'

Before Tuesday's surgery, Ben captured his injured limb and wrote: 'Op happens today! so far so good - arrow on the correct leg @andipeters on the tv + super stylish socks in place.' [sic]

Sporting a hospital gown from the comfort of a bed, he shared an update after his operation and said: 'Hi there everybody, thank you all for the amazing, lovely messages.
