The Story Of My Wife is an adaptation of Milan Fust’s 1942 novel. The story is set in the 1920s and sees sea captain Jakob Storr makes a bet with a friend that he will marry the first woman who enters the cafe they are sat in - just as character Lizzy arrives, according to Variety.
The novel was first published in Hungary in 1942, but not translated into English until the late 1980s.
Lea Seydoux plays the lead role of Lizzy, however she tested positive for Covid-19 and had to pull out of attending Cannes Film Festival.
