She grew up with both parents in the acting industry and made her small-screen debut at the age of 18.

But when the time came for Kate Beckinsale, 48, to take her career across the pond, it was fellow actress Uma Thurman, 51, who helped her get started.

When the star of the Underworld series first arrived with her then-partner Michael Sheen, 52, along with newborn daughter Lily in New York City in 1999, the couple hadn't even secured an abode to call their own.

Fortunately, Pulp Fiction actress Uma put them up in a West Village mansion... even if they had to share it with a few cockroaches.

Speaking to The Mirror, Kate admitted that the pair 'hadn't really got it together' with finding a place to live.

The London-born actress said, 'Uma Thurman... casually... went, "Well I've got a brownstone I'm not using," so I kind of went, "Oh, okay!" 

'There was a lot of wildlife in it. It was a kind of crumbling situation, but it was so nice of her and it really rescued us and
