The Weeknd has discussed his Grammys snub and his hopes for children in a candid new interview.

The I Can't Feel My Face hitmaker, 31, memorably missed out on Grammy nominations in November last year and spoke of his feelings over the 'confusing' incident in an interview with British GQ.   

He said: 'When it happened, I had all these ideas and thoughts. I was angry and I was confused and I was sad. But now, looking back at it, I never want to know what really happened.'

In the wake of the snub, in March the  singer - real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye - said he will no longer allow his record label, Republic Records, to submit his music for awards consideration.  

He said: 'I just don't care. Because that will never be the reason why I do what I do. It never really was before. And I'm glad that I can make music and not have to think about that. I'll never be in that conversation again.

'I have no interest. Everyone's like, "No, just do better next time." I will do better, but not for you. I'm going to do better for me.'  

The star also spoke about his hopes to start to a family - after giving up drugs. In February 2020, he revealed he had an off-and-on relationship' with drugs

He said: 'No. Drugs were a crutch. It was me thinking that I needed it. And not doing the work to figure out how not to need it. 

'And I've spent the last few years realising that and thanking God that I don't need it. Because for a lot of people, it's hard to shake it. But I knew I didn't want it.'

Responding to the comment, 'It's tough to play the long game with drugs in the picture', he said: 'Right. And I eventually want a family. I know I say I don't, but I know I do. I want children.' 

The singer, who was recently pictured enjoying a dinner with Angelina Jolie, also spoke about the guilt he feels when he’s dating someone who isn’t famous, for 'bringing so much attention into their life.'

He said: 'Yes. I do feel guilty. For sure. That's why I try not to do too much. I just try not to bring attention to myself. And I just love being in normal situations, man. It's such a great feeling. To be able to just like go on a walk and not be in a f*****g SUV.' 

His famous exes include Selena Gomez and supermodel Bella Hadid.
