The Voice Australia coach Guy Sebastian has backtracked on his recent admission that producers tell the coaches when to turn their chairs for contestants.

The singer, 39, made headlines over the weekend when he told Yahoo that he and his fellow judges Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Keith Urban are encouraged to turn their chairs for certain contestants to create more on-screen drama.

Daily Mail Australia understands producers and Sebastian's record label Sony Music Australia went into damage control after Sebastian spilled the industry secret.

On Tuesday, Sebastian desperately back-peddled on his statements, insisting that he has 'never once been told who to turn his chair for'.

Posting to Facebook, the musician penned a lengthy comment underneath a story published by Tone Deaf, which was titled: The Voice judge Guy Sebastian reveals producers tell them when to turn'

'Only problem is this headline is completely false,' Sebastian began.

Sebastian clarified that producers merely 'remind' the coaches that the can turn their chairs whenever they want, in the hopes that they will turn more often.

This strategy, he claims, helps to promote on-screen showdowns between coaches battling for the same contestants.

'We are only given reminders of the different format changes for example this year there are unlimited chair turns instead of 12 spots which means if we are on the fence we don't need to be selective,' he wrote.
