The world will soon get to get to know Janet Jackson's journey - from small town girl in Indiana to global superstar of popular music - from the woman herself.

On Monday, Jackson took to her social media platforms and shared the first teaser trailer for her upcoming two-night documentary simply titled, JANET.

The documentary, which was five years in the making, will air on Lifetime and A&E in January and celebrate the 40th anniversary of her self-tiled debut album that dropped back September 1982.

The clip begins with an overhead look at one of Jackson's concert's and a voiceover introduction: 'Are you ready for the one lady who's taking the nation by storm.'

It's followed by quick soundbites from the likes of fellow female pop stars of her era.

'This is what a superstar look like,' Missy Elliott says.

Then, Mariah Carey calls her 'an empowered woman', before Paula Abdul adds that she's a 'force to be reckoned with.'

The teaser then veers between footage from her childhood as young girl, and throughout her life, to the breakout success with her third album, Control (1986), as her hit song of the same name plays in the background.  

The Control album would mark the beginning of her collaboration with acclaimed producers and songwriters Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, as well as co-writing some of her own songs for the first time.
