Doja Cat has teamed up with Pepsi for a new commercial spot that pays tribute to the iconic 1978 musical movie Grease starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
In the ad that was released on Friday, the 25-year-old rapper plays the role of Sandy Olsson and sings a modernized version of the film's closing song, You're The One That I Want.
The 90-second commercial will air for the first time during the 2021 MTV VMA Awards, which Doja is hosting.

At the beginning of the ad, bells rang out at the commercial's version of Rydell High. Doja channeled Sandy's initially wholesome look in a flowing blue floral chiffon dress with a strand of pearls and a pink scarf tied around her neck.
The California's native long locks were dyed blonde to mirror her silver screen counterpart. She was seen lounging against a car with her posse of Pink Ladies, modeled after Sandy's group of girlfriends in the movie.
In the next scene, Sandy's love interest Danny Zuko, played by Noah Steinbuch, reached into a cooler and cracked open a can of Pepsi as he hangs out in the parking lot with his gang of greasers, the T-Birds.

Doja then launched into an R&B-inspired contemporary cover of the movie's famous climatic song as she tried to catch Noah's eye. However, the rapper slightly altered the lyrics, with Doja's Sandy singing 'I need a plan' instead of 'I need a man.'
