Port Adelaide club president and lifelong fan David 'Kochie' Koch had plenty of reasons to celebrate on Sunday night.

The Sunrise host, 65, watched from home as one of his club's star players, Ollie Wines, won the first Brownlow Medal in Port Adelaide's history. 

On Monday, when Kochie was absent from the show's desk his colleagues suggested perhaps the TV host had enjoyed a few too many drinks during the AFL's night of nights.

'Could [have] a slight headache this morning,' joked sports presenter Mark Beretta.

Kochie's co-stars then suggested the TV veteran might even still be celebrating the Power's big night. 

Channel 7 told Daily Mail Australia there was a completely innocent explanation for the presenter's absence however.

According to a spokesperson, Koch had 'planned leave this week which coincides with school holidays,' and was making the most of 'a chance to spend time with some of his grandchildren (within COVID guidelines).'
