Pete Murray was forced to withdraw from SAS Australia on Monday night's episode after he dislocated his elbow during a brutal boxing match with Mark Philippoussis.

Speaking to The Courier Mail on Monday, the musician detailed the extent of the gruesome injury, revealing it took three attempts to put his elbow back into place.

The 51-year-old also recalled being so 'in the zone' during his match with retired tennis star Mark, that despite the pain 'creeping in', he wanted to continue fighting.

With a medic rushed to the scene, Pete was told he would have to withdraw from the competition, seek treatment at hospital and undergo x-rays.

The artist was driven to the closest hospital in Lithgow, two hours from the Blue Mountains, and recalled needing two doses of morphine as the pain slowly crept in.

'Within about 10 or 15 minutes I remember going, "I might have a shot of morphine now",' he told the paper.

Pete said 'it took the docs three guys and three attempts to put it back in,' and revealed he's still unable to fully extend his elbow, three months since filming.

Elsewhere in the interview, Pete admitted that despite crashing down to the ground with his injury, he was so 'in the zone' that he wanted to have another shot at Mark.

He said: 'That whole course I was really in the zone. When that happened it was uncomfortable, the pain was slowly creeping in, but my mindset was, "I'm here to do a job".'
