Ashley Tisdale says she 'cried in the tub' and doesn't 'recognize her body' in ...

Ashley Tisdale has been very open about her struggles with her self-image as a new mom. 

And on Sunday night, the 36-year-old High School Musical star, who gave birth to her first child in March, shared a candid post about her motherhood journey to her Instagram Story. 

'I wanted to share this because I think it's important to show the parts we don't share that often,' Ashley wrote on a photo in which she was pictured in a bathtub with mascara-streaked tears rolling down her face.

'I cried in the tub bc the journey of motherhood can be hard,' Tisdale continued.

The How Do You Love Someone singer, who suffers from anxiety and depression, explained that postpartum body changes had taken a toll on her mental health.

She wrote, 'For someone who struggles with mental health there are days that I don't feel great because I don't recognize my body.' 

Ashley went on to disclose personal details about one of the side effects that she has continued to experience since her pregnancy.

'I'm still healing and occasionally will sneeze and pee at the same time (TMI I know guys but it's the truth) which then makes me realize how much my body has changed.'  

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody actress also expressed her worries about her child's safety amid the COVID-19 and her fears of inadequacy as a mom.

'I get anxious taking Jupiter out anywhere bc we're still in a pandemic,' She continued, 'I always feel like I could be doing better.' 

Tisdale said that she was still trying to reconcile her career with her home life but went on to acknowledge that she was 'doing my best' and 'that's all I can do.'  

Ashley concluded, And I'm still trying to figure out the balance of work life and mom life. So I cried and I allowed myself to cry. But it's not always easy. I'm not perfect and that's ok. But I'm doing my best and that's all that I can do.'

In two other photos that she posted, Ashley revealed that her husband Christopher French had surprised her with 'a spa night.'

'Shoutout to this man @cmfrench,' she wrote on an image of French taken from behind as he stood in front of a stove. 'Surprise bath and dinner.'

'(He's def making up for not moving the Peleton)', she added with a crying laughing emoji.

In August, Tisdale revealed that she had diastasis recti from her pregnancy. Diastasis recti is a condition in which the left and right sides of the outermost abdominal muscle separate, sometimes resulting in a bulge in the middle of the belly. 

In June, Tisdale penned a blog post about her postpartum body emotions for her site Frenshe, titled Getting Real About My Body After Baby.
