Love Island Australia is still going ahead with filming in the Byron hinterland village of Federal after Mayor of the region, Michael Lyon, and the Byron Shire council officially withdrew their support of the production.

Mayor Lyon expressed his concerns over the number of reality shows shooting in and around Byron Bay last week, after a crew member on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! tested positive to Covid, sending the entire area into a seven-day lockdown

Nine Network program director Hamish Turner has since publicly acknowledged the local council’s issues with the project, but said production would be going ahead as planned.

'All productions are conducted in accordance with the strictest health and safety regulations, testing, and isolation,' Turner added.

Production is still scheduled to go ahead as current exempt development regulations allow for filming for up to 30 days on a private property.
