Verdict: Chill in the desert

So long, folks. I've finally pieced together my own hoverbike from bits of space junk, and it's time for me to leave the tribe behind and strike out into the desert to find adventure — and myself.
Hmm. I wish. This is actually the setup to Sable, and it's one of the most beguiling openings to a game that I've ever played.
A large part of the attraction is Sable's look.
Sable was inspired by the work of the French comic book artist Jean Giraud, aka Moebius, and it seems almost hand-drawn; a world of dark outlines filled in by colour washes
Sable isn't just some art project. It's also a lot of fun. You glide around on your hoverbike, discovering the assorted weirdos of this arid planet and trying to help them out

The effect is stunning. I could have happily just watched the searing ochres of day give way to the pastel purples of night… on endless loop.
Then there's its sound. A woozy, electronic score by the band Japanese Breakfast contributes to what is a quite meditative experience.
