Katie Price's ex-fiancé Kris Boyson has told of his hopes that her recent drink-drive car crash was a 'turning point in her life'.

The former glamour model, 43, pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance after her horror crash on Tuesday.

And in a new interview, her former partner Kris, whom she split from in 2019, told how the crash could be deemed as a 'blessing in disguise', with the personal trainer detailing how she used alcohol to 'self-meditate' during tough times.

Kris told The Sun: 'Kate has a great family around her that will hopefully help her with this. I just hope this can be the turning point for her now to change her life.

'The crash was like a blessing in disguise because now hopefully she can get the help she needs.'

The personal trainer and Katie met in May 2018 and got engaged in July 2019, but ended their relationship four months later.

Amid his supportive words about his ex, who learned of Katie's crash on the news, went on to detail how she used alcohol as a crutch in times of trouble.

He said: 'Katie has been open before about how she self-medicates. It seems this is her coping mechanism for whatever is going on in her life. I just hope now for her sake, her kids’ sake and her family’s sake that she gets through this and comes back out on top.'

Upon learning of her recent troubles, Kris admitted that he was immediately 'concerned' for both her welfare and her children's, adding that he could relate to her mental health struggles as he's battled with his own issues.

Noting how he's been in a 'similar position' to Katie, a sympathetic Kris remarked that he understands how 'lonely' things get and how 'hard' it is to get out of a 'rut'.

MailOnline have contacted Katie's representatives for comment.

Katie now faces jail after pleading guilty to three charges of drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance at Crawley Magistrates Court.

But prosecutors dropped a drug-driving charge in light of her guilty drink-driving plea. It came just days after family and friends rallied round her following her arrest.

Katie, who was already banned from driving, flipped her car on a country road at 6.20am near West Grinstead, close to her home.

After being rescued by a local resident, she was arrested on suspicion of driving while above the legal limit for alcohol and drugs - and tested positive for cocaine.

The model told police: 'I was just going to my friend's house. I know I shouldn't. I've been banned four times. I took drugs. I should not be driving. I admit it all.'

Katie could still face jail when she is sentenced in December, but checked into the Priory on Wednesday. The model has no driving licence after being disqualified for two years in October 2019 - and has been banned from the roads six times in total.

The three charges were using a motor vehicle on a public place without third party insurance; driving while unfit to drive through drink; and driving while disqualified. Price had been taken to hospital but is not thought to have been badly injured.

Katie's fiancé Carl Woods posted a statement on his Instagram on Tuesday, saying 'Katie is a rough diamond, she has her imperfections, however they make her perfect to me'.

The TV personality was told that her sentencing had been deferred for 11 weeks until December 15 to allow her to have treatment at The Priory and speak to the probation service.

Chair of the bench Julie Hutton told her she could leave but warned her against driving in the interim, saying: 'You are free to go and good luck at the Priory.'

Ms Hutton then handed Price an interim driving ban, warning her: 'We regularly send people to prison for driving whilst disqualified.'

A drugs wipe gave a positive reading for cocaine, prosecutor Debbie Jones said. But Joe Harrington, defending, added: 'She has had a lot of personal problems recently.

'Currently she is in the process of bankruptcy proceedings, so her house may be repossessed. So, quite a lot going on in this lady's life, a really difficult period.'

Mr Harrington added that the driving was a 'one-off' incident. He said Katie had been at home and feeling lonely and decided to go to see a friend.

The defence solicitor, who had asked magistrates to defer the sentencing for several weeks, said: 'As I understand it, she had been drinking, she was lonely.

'And she decided to go and see a friend who lived a relatively short distance away and that is when the incident happened.'

Mr Harrington said: 'There was never any premeditation that she would drive the car. She was drinking, she was lonely and decided to go and see a friend who lived the shortest distance away.'
