Nina Wadia has admitted she was 'gutted' to be the first celebrity eliminated from this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The actress, 52, and her dance partner Neil Jones were sent home after they landed in the bottom two opposite Katie McGlynn and pro dancer Gorka Marquez.

Speaking on Strictly Come  Dancing: It Takes Two on Monday, Nina said: 'I was gutted, for sure. I had so much more to give and I wanted to spend so much more time with you [Neil], more than my husband.'

Neil, 39, jokingly added: 'We're kind of like a married couple anyway.'

Nina and Neil landed at bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday night's show with a score of 18 after their tango failed to impress the judges. 

The couple danced the tango, with Nina revealing she inhabited her alter ego 'Sasha' during the routine.

She said: 'That was Sasha. Sasha came along. I really enjoyed the tango, I had great fun doing it.

'I was really disappointed because technically it's a really hard dance to do but it is what it is.'

Neil encouraged Nina not to be too hard on herself, saying: 'It's just one of things, it's easy to go wrong slightly. That happened. It was still such a great performance. You were so upset with yourself at the end.'

Nina added: 'I was. It's a human error. Then I thought it can't be that bad, I got a step wrong, jeez.' 

Host Rylan Clark asked her: 'When you were dancing did you feel I've gone wrong?'

Nina said: 'I was gutted, for sure. So much more to give and I wanted to spend so much more time with you [Neil], more than my husband'

Nina said: 'No because one of the bits of advice Neil gave me was, if you mess up keep going and that's what I did. Both times it felt good to me regardless.'   

Rylan said: 'You'll still dance won't you?' to which Nina jokingly replied: 'Never again.'
