Metroid Dread (Switch OLED, £49.99)
Verdict: On the OLED, Metroid Dread is especially beautiful
It seemed eccentric back in 2017. A six-and-a-bit-inch screen sandwiched between two detachable controllers that could, if you wanted, be deposited in a plastic stand and connected to a television.
In the years since, the Nintendo Switch has become one of my favourite consoles ever. Its founding gimmick — the ability to change easily between handheld and TV gaming — suddenly feels essential when you bring the expansive geography of Breath Of The Wild on to a train for the first time.
And now the Switch is getting its first serious upgrade. It's called, rather insipidly, the Switch OLED (£309.99) — after the organic light-emitting diodes that give life to its better, seven-inch screen.
