Mark Pontius of the band Foster the People is putting down his drumsticks for the time being.
The 37-year-old drummer announced on Wednesday that he was leaving the band, effective immediately.
In a lengthy and thoughtful post he shared with the group's 567,000 Instagram followers and 905,000 Twitter followers, Pontius noted that he was 'closing out' a 'huge chapter' of his life.

The music collective was formed 11 years ago and the members recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their first album.
'I'll just rip off the band-aid and say that I've decided to leave the band I helped start 11 years ago, Foster the People,' he began in the post.
'As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our first record Torches, I've been flooded with memories of sudden success, achieving all of my career aspirations in a few short years and the beautiful moments spent with my brothers in the band. What a privilege it all was, I'm eternally grateful for all of it,' he continued.
