The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were accused of being disrespectful for giving their daughter the Queen's family pet name, Lilibet. 

Now, the monarch's bridesmaid Lady Pamela Hicks has revealed she was told off for using the moniker.

'The Queen's grandmother, Queen Mary, was very frightening,' explains Lady Pamela, Lord Mountbatten's daughter. 

'She sent for me at a reception before I became lady-in-waiting, and said: 'I hear you're going out as Lilibet's lady-in-waiting. When you're in waiting, you'll remember not to call her Lilibet, just Ma'am.'

'So I saluted and went back. She was very fierce. Those were the days of fierce old ladies.'
