Great British Bake Off's first ever German week proved to be a disaster for Freya as she became the latest person to be eliminated from the tent on Tuesday.

And viewers at home were far from happy at the decision made by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, as they felt that George should've left after serving up raw dough during the showstopper challenge, with one fuming: 'This is insane!'

Meanwhile, in a shock for viewers and contestants, Italian baker Giuseppe was crowned star baker amid German Week, beating off stiff competition from German Jurgen - who was heavily tipped to come out on top.

After Matt Lucas announced Freya's fate, the 19-year-old, who is the show's first ever vegan baker, burst into tears and was comforted by her fellow contestants.

This week, the remaining bakers were tasked with impressing the judges with their tasty German bakes, with the first round signature challenge seeing them asked to make 24 German biscuits.

While the technical challenge proved a difficult one for all as they had to whip up an eight-layered Prince Regent chocolate cake (prinzregententorte).

But it was the final signature challenge in which they had to make yeast leavened cake that saw Freya come unstuck with Paul and Prue calling her wine-soaked fruity cake 'doughy' and 'under-baked', with too much dough compared to topping.

However, George also had a disaster with his offering, with Paul pointing out that his cake was completely raw in the middle.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their beliefs that Freya was unfairly eliminated while George should've been given his marching orders for making such a big baking faux pas.

'How are they making Freya go! This is insane!' raged one viewer.

While another shared: 'Can’t believe they kicked out Freya, who was constantly good the whole time, and she always made wicked stuff. I think George should have gone, he was always at the bottom. judges defo made a mistake this week!'

A third ranted: 'Nahhh did they really just send Freya home for having too little topping on her cake when George legit served up raw dough.'

'I really like George but it should have been him, not Freya. Not in a million dreams I would have let her go over George this week' tweeted a fourth person.

'I like George but he should have gone home over Freya tonight - they said his bake was raw for crying out loud!' exclaimed a fifth watcher.
