Just two weeks after the first trailer for HBO's House of the Dragon was unleashed, the showrunner is opening up about how the tone differs from Game of Thrones.
House of the Dragon is based on Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin's companion book, that reveals the history of House Targaryen, which ruled all of Westeros for over 200 years before the events of the original books and show.
Showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, who directed the House of the Dragon pilot and some of Game of Thrones' most memorable episodes, spoke about the show in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Both George R.R. Martin's books and the original Game of Thrones TV series was set after Robert's Rebellion, where Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) usurped Aerys Targaryen, known as the Mad King.
Before that, the Targaryen's ruled all of Westeros, thanks to their control of dragons which they used to wield their power throughout the Seven Kingdom, which this new series will showcase.
'I think we were very respectful of what the original show is. It wasn’t broken, so we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel,' said Sapochnik, who serves as a co-showrunner with series co-creator Ryan Condal, and also directs the pilot and several other episodes.
