Leona Lewis has revealed she struggled with self-doubt and beauty standards after winning The X Factor in 2006 and believes 'it was time' for the show to end.

The long-running talent show was axed for good in July after 17 years with Simon Cowell saying he didn't want it to 'become a bit of a joke.' 

Speaking to The Sun, Leona, 36, said it was difficult to have her looks picked apart but believes Little Mix, who were on the show five years after her, got it even worse.

She said: 'It is hard. I feel so much for those girls that came off and were picked apart for their looks. You never get into this thinking about anything other than, "I'm just going to sing and that's it." I definitely had moments of self-doubt, for sure.

'When you're fed these images or have people picking apart your appearance, or "Who wore it best?" — stuff like that — it gets into your head. That did definitely affect me.'
