Jay-Z has officially become the most Grammy-nominated musical artist in history.
The 51-year-old hitmaker received the distinction on Thursday, when it was announced that he had been put up for three separate awards at the forthcoming 64th annual ceremony.
The performer was previously tied with the legendary producer Quincy Jones, who matched the rapper's 80 nominations up until this year.

Trailing Jay-Z is former Beatle Paul McCartney, who has been nominated for a Grammy Award 81 times to date.

The performer's first Grammy nominations came in 1999, when he was put up for the awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
The Brooklyn native ultimately won the first of the three for his work on his third studio album, Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life.
