Coronation Street fans were left reeling on Wednesday night after beloved character Roy Cropper made a surprise departure from the cobbles.

The cafe owner decided to depart Weatherfield after struggling with the guilt of knowing who was behind the death of Sam Blakeman's mum Natasha. 

Roy's exit left many viewers in floods of tears as they flooded Twitter with posts pleading for him to stay on the soap.

Earlier this week Roy (played by David Neilson) made the shocking decision to leave Corrie after signing over ownership of his beloved café to his niece Nina (Mollie Gallagher) and accepting a job cooking in South America.

When Nina discovered he was planning to move she pleaded with him to reconsider, and even enlisted the help of his friends and loved ones to convinced him to stay.

However, burdened with the guilt of knowing Abi's gun was responsible for Natasha's death, Roy decided he'd be better off with a fresh start, and drove out of Weatherfield in a taxi.
